Why take a Civil Rights Tour?

Jewish values and CST’s social justice mission: Tikkun Olam. If I am only for myself, what am I?

 

Goals for the trip:

  • Develop understanding of the historical background behind current issues
  • Gain inspiration to work for justice here at home
  • Learn strategies and methods for this work

Activity Level

  • Average miles to be walked per day is approximately 1.5 - 2 miles
  • The longest, continuous walk is across the Edmund Pettus Bridge which is 1/4 mile
  • Most walking is in museums
  • Hotels have accessible rooms

Travel Distance By Bus Between Cities

  • Atlanta to Montgomery: 2 hours, 15 minutes
  • Montgomery to Selma: 1 hour
  • Selma to Birmingham: 1.5 hours
  • Birmingham to Memphis: 2 hours, 45 minutes

Important Dates

  • Registration opens to CST members on August 30 at 8pm
  • Final payments and payment plans complete by January 10, 2023
  • Trip dates: March 27 - April 1, 2023
  • Save the Date: April 14, 2023 - Rabbi’s Tisch that will feature stories from the civil right’s trip

Pricing

  • $1,640 per person
  • $350 extra for a single occupancy room
  • Deposit $328 (20%) per person due at registration
  • Prices do not include airfare or driver’s tip

Price Includes

  • Coach deluxe bus with bathroom and DVD player
  • All admissions, speaker, and program fees
  • All hotel rooms (based on double occupancy)
  • Meals beginning with Tuesday breakfast and ending with Saturday breakfast (not including Tuesday or Thursday night dinners)

Refunds

  • Your deposit is nonrefundable
  • If you cancel before November 15, your payments (minus deposit) will be refunded
  • After November 15, all payments are nonrefundable
  • If someone from the waitlist is able to take your spot, your payments can be refunded
  • Trip insurance is not provided but is strongly encouraged for your flights
