THE SHOMREI TORAH CULTURAL COMMITTEE PRESENTS: A VIRTUAL CONCERT OF PEACE & SOCIAL JUSTICE MUSIC

Prepare to rock, laugh, cry and be inspired by some of the great peace and social justice songs of our time, including songs by Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Bette Midler, and Pete Seeger.

San Francisco Yiddish Combo:

The San Francisco Yiddish Combo (SFYC) was formed by accident when a love of Klezmer music collided with their collective backgrounds in every genre except Klezmer. Now the SFYC is embarked on a journey around the world to present their own unique blend of everything that is Klezmer, mixed with years of experience in the jazz, blues, folk, and even hip-hop world.

Made up of classically trained musicians who enjoy stretching musical boundaries, the SFYC is led by cellist Rebecca Roudman who has fronted groups all over the world bringing her virtuosic and fiery playing to stages from China to Iceland and beyond. Check out the SFYC for a fresh spin on Klezmer with plenty of recognizable nods to an eclectic mix of genres. Oh yeah, and great for dancing!

Erica Wisner:

Erica serves as Cantorial Soloist at Congregation Shomrei Torah. Erica directs the CST choir and tutors B’nei Mitzvah students. As a child, Erica fell in love with Jewish musical liturgy when her parents started a synagogue in Sacramento County. Erica holds degrees from UCLA and The Boston Conservatory.

Yvonne Wormer:

Yvonne has been CST’s liturgical pianist since 2012.  She is a fulltime staff accompanist at Sonoma State University, working mostly with vocalists.  She earned a double BA from Cal State Hayward in Liberal Studies and Piano Performance. Born in Amsterdam, she immigrated to the East Bay at age 2.  As a child, her Dad sang at home and loved the human voice, subconsciously infusing a love of music in her.  Her uncle, who studied voice, heard her play piano and said she phrased like a singer, like she had a breath.  This inspired her to start accompanying singers. 

Doug Meador:

Doug is a rock vocalist, keyboardist, guitarist and songwriter.  He has been the lead singer and bandleader for local group Captain Paisley since 2011, featuring the music of the “psychedelic 60’s”.  He has performed concerts across the country, appeared on a major movie soundtrack, national television and performed his original songs on the Bay Area's KRON-4 TV.  He has performed and/or recorded with members of Steppenwolf, The Edgar Winter Group, The Eric Burdon Band, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, among others.  He and his wife, Beverly McChesney, live in Santa Rosa and are CST members.
