Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Visioning Survey?

The survey is part of an initiative by the Board of Directors to envision and plan for our future as a congregation.  Its purpose is to gather input from every adult member of the congregation: What do you participate in at Shomrei Torah? What do you like (and not so much)? What do you want our community to be?

Who should take the Survey?

For input from the entire congregation, we need to hear individually from every member aged 18 or older -- not just one person per household.  We’ll be reaching out to teens later on.

How long does it take?

Completing the survey usually takes five to ten minutes.

Who will know what I say?

The Visioning Task Force Co-Chairs (Eli Weinzveg and Judith Richlin-Klonsky) are able to connect a survey to the email address used to access it, if they choose.  But what we’re interested in are the patterns of thoughts, feelings, and preferences of the congregation as a whole.  Individual responses will only be reported anonymously, in the aggregate.

What if I don’t have access (or don’t like) to complete a survey online?

Call the office at 707-578-5519 to request that a printed copy be mailed or delivered to you.  We’re also happy to provide assistance in filling out the printed survey.

How will the information gathered from the survey be used?

Without identifying who said what, all the responses will be summarized in a report to the Board, which they can consult when setting our goals as a congregation and deciding how to meet them. Results will be also be shared with the full congregation and made available to members for review.

How long do I have to complete and submit it?

The deadline is Friday, June 18.  But early birds who reply by Friday, June 11, qualify for a drawing for one of three $50 gift certificates for any of the seven Starks restaurants in Sonoma County, thanks to the generosity of Nicolette and Eli Weinzveg.

What should I do if I run into technical trouble completing the survey?

Contact Eli Weinzveg: eweinzveg@gmail.com, 707-687-9069.

What should I do if I have general questions about the survey or the visioning initiative?

Contact Judith Richlin-Klonsky:  jrichlin@sonic.net, 310-903-1503.

In what other ways is information being collected for long-term planning?

Our plans include talking to current and past Shomrei Torah leaders, as well as staff and clergy; holding group discussions organized around things like generation, interest, and concerns; and preparing a demographic “snapshot” of the congregation.  If you have questions about this process, or want to be sure your voice is included, contact Judith Richlin-Klonsky: jrichlin@sonic.net, 310-903-1503.

Who serves on the Visioning Task Force?

The Task Force includes Paul Berlant; Dave Fichera; Marcy Pluznick-Marrin; Rick Reisman;  Donna Waldman; and Co-Chairs Eli Weinzveg & Judith Richlin-Klonsky.
