The Alliance for the Study of the Holocaust and Genocide: Where Have We Been and Where Are We Heading

Barbara Lesch McCaffry will be speaking about the role of the Alliance in preventing the escalation of prejudice into genocide and the annual lecture series on the Holocaust and Genocide at Sonoma State University, now entering its 39th year. She will be joined by Rachel Sibley, the newly appointed coordinator of the Alliance Education Committee, who arranges presentations by Holocaust and genocide survivors and descendants in local schools and in the community. The talk will include brief video clips of local Holocaust survivors: Hans Angress, Al and Susanne Batzdorff and Lillian Judd, z’ll.

 

 

Barbara Lesch McCaffry, Ph.D, taught in Sonoma State's interdisciplinary program, the Hutchins School of Liberal Studies, as well as in the Departments of English, American Multicultural Studies, Global Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies. Since 2000, she has also been actively involved in Holocaust and genocide education. She is currently the President of the Alliance for the Study of the Holocaust and Genocide, the co-chair of the Sonoma County Yom Hashoah Commemoration, and the Dean of Congregation Ner Shalom’s Beit Midrash: Lifelong Jewish Learning.

 

 

 

Rachel Sibley is Social Science teacher at Roseland Collegiate Prep teaching grades 10-12. She is the newly appointed coordinator of the Alliance Education Committee and for the past six years has included presentations by Holocaust and genocide survivors and descendants in her classes.

 

 

 

 

 

 


On the second Friday of each month, join your CST family at the Rabbi’s Tisch (table) in lieu of regular Friday night Shabbat Services.

Come at 6:15 PM to start with Kiddush and a catered communal dinner.  Or gather around a tisch at 7:00 PM for Shabbat blessings and prayers (including Kaddish), and the special evening program.

$12 suggested donation for the catered meal. Reservations for in person can be made below.
