Rabbi George Gittleman

Being the Rabbi of Congregation Shomrei Torah has been a dream come true. From the start of my rabbinical training, I was looking for a spiritual home. A place where I could share my love of Torah in the broadest sense of the word.  A place where we -- my family and I, along with the congregational family -- could grow, and grow up, together. A place where we could celebrate and mourn, learn, teach, and share ourselves. A place of spiritual depth and prophetic values where God was realized in our response to one another and in the “still small voice” inside each of us. A place where I could be myself while still being your rabbi. I found that home in Shomrei Torah.

I am profoundly grateful for our twenty-eight years together. You have given me and my family so much! Thank you!

Transitions are challenging but also times of opportunity. Shomrei Torah has always been blessed with exceptional lay leadership. A team of members, led by the Board of Directors, is working hard to ensure that Shomrei Torah remains vibrant and strong during this time of transition and into the future.

As I retire, I will be absent from CST for a period to allow space for you and Rabbi Berlin, and then my successor, to get to know one another.  It will be hard to be away, but it will be great to return as Rabbi Emeritus to share in the life of our community.  Take good care of yourselves and one another.

I love you and I always will…
