Waste Management at Shomrei Torah
While the concept of Zero Waste remains a lofty goal, we can do our part now.
There has been much work and discussion at CST to minimize our solid waste which consists of compost, recycling and trash. These efforts have resulted in a significant decrease in materials going to the landfill.
Our Solid Waste Management Policy reflects our Jewish values, the stewardship of our planet, as well as the health and well-being of our community members. A brief summary of our policy is as follows:
- Use plastic for cold drinks and kiddush cups; put them into the recycling bin.
- Use compostable paper hot cups for hot drinks which go into the compost bin.
- Use 100% (unlined) paper plates, bowls, and napkins which go into the compost bin.
- Use metal flatware when a cleanup crew is available, or use compostable flatware which goes into the trash.
