Congregation Shomrei Torah

Bagel Club with Russ Sawyer

Sunday, March 5, 2023 12 Adar 5783

12:30 PM - 2:30 PM

Why does a seasoned surgeon change careers at age 60?

Russ Sawyer has been a member of Shomrei Torah since 1994. He has been a practicing surgeon in Sonoma County (General, Vascular, and Trauma) for 28 years. He had a brief 10 year hiatus in Midland Texas, in which he maintained his membership in Shomrei Torah and also belonged to Temple Beth El where his daughter Julia attended religious school.

Upon moving back to Sonoma County in 2013, Russ continued working as a Trauma and Vascular Surgeon.  Both he, and his ex-wife Kym, were
proud when Julia became Bat Mitzvah in 2015 here at Shomrei Torah 2 weeks after returning from a 2 week trip to Israel. Although Surgery was truly his passion, Russ decided to change career paths and attended Law School and passed the California Bar.

He now practices, of all things, Medical Malpractice, representing injured plaintiffs as a trial lawyer. He will tell us stories about mid-life career choices. Others can chime in with their own stories as there is time.

The Bagel Club invites you to join us on the first Sunday of each month for a bagel meal followed by a live speaker. Meal includes a selection of bagels, cream cheese, lox and all the trimmings. We welcome all CST members to join us.

We request a donation of $10 for the meal.
